Tia Mowry has made it crystal clear that despite her honesty about her relationship with her twin sister, Tamera Mowry, their bond remains strong.
On her new reality series, “Tia Mowry: My Next Act,” the actress discussed the closeness she used to have with Tamera and said she wished she could “pick up the phone and call her.” Her statement quickly caused confusion among social media users, with some calling her out for publicly displaying their family issues and others feeling emotional about their distance.
“It’s times like this when I feel and wish that my sister and I were still close, and I could pick up the phone and call her,” she said. “But that’s just not where we are right now.”
However, Tia shared with PEOPLE in an interview sometime later that their lives naturally pulled them apart due to their ongoing daily responsibilities. She also stated that there’s “so much love” between them. A source also clarified her statement, saying it was more about their geographical differences as Tamera lives in Napa, while Tia lives in Los Angeles.
“My sister has a family of her own,” Tia stated. “I guess what I’m saying is it’s normal. It’s very natural for us to create lives for ourselves. It’s just a part of life. People have started to create their own families. It is what it is, and that’s okay. There’s no hard feelings.”
To double down on the clarification, Tia recently spoke with Entertainment Tonight to elaborate on previous comments.
“She is a mother. Her children need her. She is also a wife. Her husband needs her,” Tia said. “So she’s just not as accessible as the way it used to be. So, I’m comparing it to what it used to be. But I literally just talked to her yesterday.” She added, “Everything is good. I’m gonna say what my cousin says, all is well. Period.”
Additionally, Tia also stated that Tamera is also “in a different place” in her life and even made a reference to their 2000 film, “Seventeen Again.”
“She’s doing her thing, and I’m doing my thing. It’s the same thing with my brother. We were doing movies together, ‘Seventeen Again,'” the actress stated. “I think the reason people tend to go there is because our careers started together. But just like any sibling, everybody goes off to do their own thing, and you want them to. You want them to be individuals and to fly solo. So there’s nothing harmful in any of that.”
