Lionsgate’s highly anticipated Michael Jackson biopic, Michael, directed by Antoine Fuqua, has a new release date. Originally slated to debut on April 18, 2025, the film is now scheduled for wide release on October 3, 2025. The six-month delay comes as Fuqua and his team continue to refine the project, which promises an in-depth look at the King of Pop’s life and legacy.
Michael stars Jaafar Jackson, the late music legend’s nephew, in the title role, with a supporting cast that includes Nia Long, Laura Harrier, Miles Teller, and Colman Domingo. Fuqua, known for his passion for storytelling, is directing from a script by John Logan, with producers Graham King, John Branca, and John McClain at the helm.
During a San Diego Comic-Con panel earlier this year, Fuqua discussed the scope of the project and his deep connection to Jackson’s story.
“Michael was a big part of my life growing up, big influence on my career… and we’re exploring that,” he said, hinting at the challenges of capturing the essence of such a complex figure. Footage shared at CinemaCon indicated that the movie will feature 30 of Jackson’s songs, aiming to deliver both an expansive and nuanced portrayal of his journey.
