The New York Jets announced that they have fired General Manager Joe Douglas. During his tenure, which began in 2019, the Jets held the league’s worst win percentage with a 30-64 record. This decision comes just seven weeks after the team parted ways with head coach Robert Saleh following a disappointing start to the season.
Quarterback issues have long plagued the Jets, and Douglas’s inability to solve them ultimately hurt his standing. His high-profile miss on quarterback Zach Wilson overshadowed bright spots like rising stars cornerback Sauce Gardner and wide receiver Garrett Wilson.
Team owner Woody Johnson released a statement after the announcement: “Today I informed Joe Douglas he will no longer serve as the General Manager for the New York Jets. I want to thank Joe for his commitment to the Jets over the last six years and wish him and his family the best moving forward. Phil Savage will be the interim General Manager for the remainder of the season. We will begin the process to identify a new General Manager immediately.”
The Jets have struggled with stability throughout the season, and Johnson’s early start on the search for new leadership reflects the urgency to turn things around. With six weeks remaining, Jets fans are already looking ahead to the offseason, hoping the organization will address critical issues and reset for a stronger future after their final game on January 5th.
