Kai Cenat, one of the internet’s most prominent streamers, recently shocked fans when he turned down a $60 million deal with streaming platform Kick. In a candid conversation on the latest episode of Club Shay Shay with host Shannon Sharpe, Cenat opened up about his decision, explaining it was about principles, not profits.
Sharpe asked the Twitch star, “You turned down $60 million to join Kick. Why did you do that?” Kai responded, “It wasn’t right. I couldn’t join Kick at the time because I realized that not all money is good money. Some money you could take and deals you could sign that would jeopardize everything you built up.”
The 23-year-old emphasized that his decision was rooted in protecting his career, reputation, and the community he has cultivated on Twitch. “Sometimes you gotta just say no. This is cool, it’s generational, but I’m more like, what am I stamping on the world? What am I going to be known for? If it doesn’t make sense, I’m not doing it. I have such a great community where I’m at now—why would I leave it?”
When asked who influenced his choice, Kai revealed, “It was me and God.” He recounted the pivotal moment leading up to his decision: “Right before my Sub-A-Thon in 2023, I got a call from Kick saying, ‘We got these millions.’ They wanted me to split my time—15 days on Twitch, then 15 days on Kick—and then reveal I was switching to Kick.”
Despite the enticing offer, Kai said he knew it wasn’t the right move. “I told my team, ‘I can’t do it.’ As soon as I hung up, I got down on my knees and prayed. I said, ‘God, I just turned down a crazy amount of money that would help me for a lifetime. Please keep me on the road of staying focused and achieving my dreams at a natural pace.’ And He answered.”
Indeed, Kai’s faith and perseverance have paid off. In November 2024, he reclaimed the title of Twitch’s most-subscribed creator, closing out a massive year that featured viral moments and guest appearances from major stars like Nicki Minaj and John Cena.
For Kai Cenat, the $60 million offer may have been life-changing, but staying true to himself and his vision mattered more.
“Not all money is good money.”
