Trey Songz is pleading with a judge to call off the $11 million judgment against him stemming from an assault case.
The R&B singer’s legal team argues that the massive default judgment, awarded to former police officer Tyrelle Dunn, was improperly obtained due to faulty legal procedures. According to court documents, “[Trey] did not properly effectuate service of process of the summons and complaint pursuant to Nevada or California law.”
His lawyer contends that Trey was unaware of the lawsuit until November 27th, 2024, long after the judgment was publicized.
The motion further asserts, “[Trey] promptly engaged civil defense counsel over the Thanksgiving holiday and filed this Motion to set aside the default judgment the next week.” The filing emphasizes the devastating impact of the judgment, stating it “will ruin his life” if enforced.
Songz has requested the opportunity to defend himself in court. The lawsuit stems from a 2021 altercation where Dunn alleges Trey assaulted him while attempting to free his wife, who Dunn claims was held against her will by Trey and others. The incident reportedly left Dunn with fractured eye sockets and lasting scars. However, authorities cleared Trey of criminal wrongdoing after an investigation involving statements, mobile phone data, and a DNA search warrant.
This legal battle follows other controversies, including a settled $25 million sexual assault lawsuit last year.
