The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) offered buyouts to its entire workforce on Tuesday. The decision, according to two sources familiar with the matter, is part of a broader effort to align the agency with President Donald Trump’s national security priorities.
A CIA spokesperson confirmed the buyouts in a statement, emphasizing that the move reflects the vision of newly appointed CIA Director John Ratcliffe.
“Director Ratcliffe is moving swiftly to ensure the CIA workforce is responsive to the Administration’s national security priorities. These moves are part of a holistic strategy to infuse the Agency with renewed energy,” the spokesperson said.
The CIA’s buyout offers are consistent with the Trump administration’s sweeping efforts to reshape the federal government. Since taking office, the administration has fired or sidelined thousands of civil servants across various departments, aiming to downsize the bureaucracy and install political loyalists in key positions.
The intelligence community has not been immune to these changes. Ratcliffe, a staunch Trump ally and former Congressman, has been tasked with bringing the CIA in line with the administration’s vision.
It remains unclear how many CIA employees will accept the buyout offers and what the long-term impact on the agency’s operations will be.
