Authorities have arrested a woman for allegedly using the credit cards of Adan Manzano, a Kansas City Telemundo sports reporter who was found dead in his Louisiana hotel room while covering the Super Bowl.
Manzano, 27, was discovered unresponsive in his Kenner hotel room on February 5, just days before the big game. According to police, Danette Colbert was arrested after allegedly using Manzano’s stolen credit card at several stores in New Orleans.
Hotel security footage reportedly shows Colbert entering Manzano’s room with him early that morning before leaving alone later that day. While she is currently only facing fraud and theft-related charges, police stress that the investigation is ongoing.
Colbert has a criminal history, including previous arrests for drugging men, theft, and fraudulent use of credit and debit cards, according to authorities.
Manzano was a rising star in sports media, working for Telemundo KC and Tico Sports, where he served as a sports anchor and sideline reporter for the Kansas City Chiefs.
“Adan was an exceptional professional and a rising star whose dedication and talent reflected excellence in his work,” Telemundo Kansas City said in a statement. “We will deeply miss Adan, his passion for sports, and the contributions he made to the local community.”
Authorities say there were no obvious signs of trauma, and toxicology tests are pending to determine the cause of death.
Manzano’s death comes just a year after his wife was tragically killed in a car crash. The couple leaves behind a young daughter, Eleanor.
