Trump has made another unconventional move, naming conservative media personality and former Secret Service agent Dan Bongino as deputy director of the FBI. The position, traditionally held by career FBI agents, does not require Senate confirmation.
Bongino will serve under Kash Patel, a Trump loyalist who was confirmed as FBI director just last week. The duo will now lead the nation’s top law enforcement agency alongside U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi, another longtime Trump ally.
“Dan Bongino, a man of incredible love and passion for our Country, has just been named the next DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF THE FBI, by the man who will be the best ever Director, Kash Patel,” Trump wrote in a social media post. “Working with our great new United States Attorney General, Pam Bondi, and Director Patel, Fairness, Justice, Law and Order will be brought back to America, and quickly.”
Bongino, has built a career in conservative media after multiple failed congressional bids. He gained prominence as a vocal critic of the FBI and has previously called for mass firings within the agency.
His appointment breaks with the long-standing tradition of filling the deputy director role with an experienced FBI agent, raising questions about the direction of the bureau under Trump’s influence.
