Shedeur Sanders is projected to be one of, if not the first, quarterbacks selected in the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft. It was first reported by Rap Sheet over the weekend that the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year would not be throwing at the NFL Combine. To some, this may seem like a big deal, while to others, it doesn’t change much.

Sanders had an impressive season with the Colorado Buffaloes, finishing with 4,134 passing yards, 37 touchdowns, and a passer rating of 168.2. He ranked fourth in the country in passer rating and earned a Heisman nomination to back it up. Former NFL player LeSean McCoy sees no issue with Sanders skipping the throwing drills at the combine.
“They got tape on him, they know who his daddy is,” McCoy said on Fox Sports’ morning show, The Facility. “That’s the thing though, everybody has so much to say. All these opinions, but the man that did it the best on every level—Deion Sanders—and that’s my father. He knows what’s best for me. I know one thing: if you want a winner, if you want a skilled quarterback, you need that gene in his blood that he has—the winner. You go get Shedeur Sanders.”
The former All-Pro running back also pointed out that Sanders’ brother, Shilo, was not invited to the combine, along with a few other teammates. By opting to throw at his pro day at the University of Colorado instead, Sanders ensures that every scout wanting to see him throw will also get a look at his brother and teammates, giving them exposure as well. It’s a clear sign of leadership and a final way for him to help the Buffaloes before taking his talents to the next level.
