It was announced Monday that Michigan’s head football coach Sherrone Moore will be suspended for two games this upcoming season, first reported by ESPN. The two-game suspension is a self-imposed punishment related to the sign-stealing scandal from October 2023, when Moore was serving as a coordinator.
The suspension will be served during Michigan’s week three game against Central Michigan and week four in their Big Ten opener against Nebraska. Moore will still be allowed to coach in week two against his alma mater, Oklahoma, on the road. He is also expected to face additional punishment from the NCAA, with a hearing scheduled for June when further disciplinary actions will be announced.
Connor Stalions, identified as the central figure in the sign-stealing scandal, resigned in 2023 and has since been working at the high school level. Moore’s suspension reportedly stems from allegations that he deleted 52 text message chains after the scandal was made public.
During the two-week suspension, Moore will not be permitted at practices or any team activities. He led the Wolverines to an 8-5 record last season.
