Floyd Mayweather Blasts Business Insider in $100M Lawsuit Over “Lies” That Could Cost Him Billions [Video]

Floyd Mayweather is opening up about why he chose to file the massive $100 million lawsuit against Business Insider.

During a panel at TheRealDeal’s NYC Forum 2025, Mayweather was there to talk real estate, but when asked about his legal battle with Business Insider and journalist David Geiger, he didn’t hold back.

“I’ve never sued a media outlet,” Mayweather said. “The media outlets throughout my life has bashed me, talked bad about me, talked bad about my family. I’ve always been judged because of how I present myself when promoting a fight. Judge me for the person that you know. You can’t judge me if you don’t know me.”

He explained the lawsuit stems from a Business Insider article claiming there was “no evidence” he purchased a $500 million real estate portfolio, despite his public announcement of the deal. Mayweather said the article not only attacked his reputation but also jeopardized his future business.

“Someone is going out there putting lies on my name, putting lies on me and my team, hurting my business,” he said. “We’re not talking about millions. We’re talking about billions of dollars.”

“This is my first time ever filing a lawsuit ever against a media company for speaking bad about my company,” he continued. “I’m not a liar. I’m a lot of things, but I’m not a liar.”

As for bankruptcy rumors, the athlete replied, “If we call having two private jets, owning a hundred buildings, and being able to do what you want bankrupt, then I’m pretty sure everybody wants to live like that.”
