As Sean “Diddy” Combs‘ federal trial on sex trafficking and racketeering charges continues, rapper Kid Cudi is expected to take the witness stand later this week. This development follows explosive testimony from singer Cassie Ventura, who alleged that Diddy threatened to blow up Cudi’s car after discovering their romantic involvement in 2011.
Cassie testified that during a period when she was still involved in Diddy’s so-called “freak-offs,” he found out about her relationship with Kid Cudi and became enraged. She claimed that Diddy threatened both her and Cudi, stating that he would have Cudi’s car blown up while they were out of the country. According to Cassie, Diddy expressed a desire for Cudi’s friends to witness the explosion.
In February 2012, Kid Cudi’s car did, in fact, explode in his driveway. While no injuries were reported, the incident raised eyebrows. In 2023, when Cassie’s lawsuit against Diddy brought the alleged threat to light, a representative for Kid Cudi confirmed the account, stating, “This is all true.”
Cassie’s relationship with Diddy began in 2007 after she signed with his Bad Boy Records label. Their relationship, both professional and personal, lasted until 2018 and was marked by allegations of control and abuse. Cassie has testified that Diddy exerted significant control over her life and career, making it difficult for her to leave the relationship.
The trial has already seen testimony from several witnesses corroborating Cassie’s claims of abuse and control. Dawn Richard, a former member of Danity Kane, testified about witnessing Diddy physically assault Cassie on multiple occasions. Cassie’s former best friend, Kerry Morgan, also recounted instances of abuse and described Cassie’s transformation from a vibrant individual to someone who was withdrawn and lacked confidence.
Diddy has pleaded not guilty to all charges, which include sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation for purposes of prostitution.
