Lawanda “Lala” Lane isn’t letting anyone rewrite the legacy of her best friend Kim Porter—especially not Al B. Sure.
During a recent appearance on TMZ Live, Lala addressed a wave of resurfaced speculation around Kim Porter’s sudden 2018 death, sparked in part by Al B. Sure’s suggestion that something suspicious happened and even pointing a finger at Sean “Diddy” Combs. But Lala, who was by Kim’s side until her final days, had strong words for the R&B singer and anyone spreading misinformation.
“To speak so recklessly on stuff that you know nothing about is wrong,” she said. “You saw that woman two months before she died—for an hour. You were not her friend. You didn’t have a relationship.”
Lala made it clear that only Kim’s children, her close circle of friends, and her family were present through the highs and lows, including her declining health. According to Lala, Kim’s passing wasn’t surrounded by the conspiracy theories the public loves to push. It was personal, painful, and private—and dragging it into the rumor mill is deeply disrespectful.
“There’s no benefit for Sean to lose the mother of his children,” she emphasized, shooting down rumors that Kim was preparing to expose secrets in a book. “That was not Kim’s mindset.”
Lala also reminded everyone that Kim’s family is still mourning her loss—including her children, her father, and her recently deceased grandmother. She didn’t hide her frustration over how easily outsiders have latched onto narratives that have no basis in reality.
“That was our friend. That was somebody’s daughter, someone’s granddaughter, and someone’s mother. Her kids knew she was not well,” Lala explained. “And for people who weren’t there to speak out as if they were—it’s not just wrong, it’s cruel.”
With Diddy now facing serious federal charges and the spotlight shining even brighter on the Combs family, Lala’s goal is clear: protect Kim’s children, uphold the truth, and block out the noise.
“I’ve known their dad for 30 years. We know the man in ways the world does not,” she said. “But the only real tragedy we focus on is losing Kim. And we got through that—together.”
For Lala, speaking up wasn’t just about setting the record straight—it was about defending her friend’s name and giving Kim the respect she deserves. And if that means calling out celebrities who cross the line, she’s not holding back.
