Hundreds of protesters clashed with federal immigration agents in Paramount, California, and now, the Trump administration says it will deploy the National Guard to control the escalating unrest.

Photos from the demonstrations, which erupted over ongoing deportations, captured intense scenes of chaos. Massive fires burned in the streets, and Border Patrol agents were seen hurling tear gas into crowds just 20 minutes outside downtown Los Angeles.
Law enforcement officers marched through the streets with weapons drawn, trying to break up the crowds. Protesters responded by standing firm with covered faces, raised fists, and explicit signs condemning U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The severity of the situation has drawn national attention. Members of the Trump administration have voiced support for a federal crackdown, though California Governor Gavin Newsom has warned that such action would only worsen tensions. Saturday night, the administration said it would deploy at least 2,000 soldiers.
Mayor Karen Bass addressed the unrest in a statement, saying: “Reports of unrest outside the city, including in Paramount, are deeply concerning. We’ve been in direct contact with officials in Washington, D.C., and are working closely with law enforcement to find the best path forward. Everyone has the right to peacefully protest, but let me be clear: violence and destruction are unacceptable, and those responsible will be held accountable.”
As federal and state leaders debate their next steps, Los Angeles braces for another volatile night.
