Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser is showing appreciation for an effort that dramatically cut one of the city’s biggest crime problems. She says she’s grateful for Trump’s federal surge of officers, which she credits with bringing violent crime down and making neighborhoods feel safer.
During a press conference, Bowser revealed that carjackings dropped 87% in the last 20 days compared to the same period last year. She explained that when carjackings, gun crimes, and robberies decrease, communities not only feel safer but are safer.

The federal surge gave the Metropolitan Police Department much-needed reinforcements after years of pressure to address rising crime. Bowser admitted that the collaboration has been critical in changing the trend.
While the short-term results are striking, questions remain about whether crime will climb again once the surge winds down.
