Tyrese was reportedly ordered to turn himself in on charges stemming from the death of his neighbor’s dog. However, the singer is in no rush to sit in a cell.
The “Sweet Lady” star is accused of failing to surrender to Georgia police after an arrest warrant was issued for misdemeanor animal cruelty. His Cane Corso mastiffs allegedly mauled and killed a neighbor’s Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Henry on September 18th.
Fulton County authorities said they had warned Tyrese multiple times about his dogs getting loose. Captain Nicole Dwyer confirmed to the Associated Press that there were several prior complaints about his large dogs roaming freely in the upscale Buckhead neighborhood.
Police searched Gibson’s property days after the attack but found neither him nor the dogs. He was given until September 26th to turn himself in, yet failed to do so.
Dwyer told PEOPLE, “According to his attorney, he is getting his affairs in order, but he has known he has a warrant for over a week and has failed to turn himself in as requested.”
Gibson’s attorney, Gabe Banks, insists the actor is cooperating and has since rehomed the dogs. He also offered condolences to the grieving family, whose five-year-old dog reportedly died from puncture wounds and internal bleeding.
With community safety top of mind, officials stress the seriousness of the case as the family mourns the loss of their beloved Henry.
