By now, nearly everyone has chimed in on the Nick Young and D’Angelo Russell debacle. Now, after a report surfaced that the Lakers have shunned the rookie after he recorded Young admitting to cheating on his girlfriend Iggy Azalea, the two have addressed the media.
Russell, who had admitted to privately recording Young, says he doesn’t know how the footage got released to the public. “I’m not going to say I got hacked. I’m not going to say I leaked it. I don’t know how it got out,” the rookie stated.
What Russell does know, however, is that he wishes the whole thing never happened. “I am sick,” a clearly apologetic Russell said. “I am sorry about recording the video. I can’t repeat myself enough on that: I am sorry I recorded that video. I feel horrible. I wish this never happened.”
According to Russell, this isn’t an uncommon practice for the two guys. “The thing is, we record ourselves doing dumb stuff all the time,” he explained. “On the road or home, wherever. We go back and watch what we did and said and laugh at ourselves. I guess I just never thought that these pranks we pull on ourselves could have bigger consequences. That was a big lesson I learned.
As for Young, he isn’t exactly ready to publicly dead the situation. “I think it’s best me and D’Angelo handle our situation in a private manner,” Young reportedly stated. “It’s something we need to talk about.”
Lakers head coach, Byron Scott, did acknowledge that this situation has caused on-court distrust amongst the team, stating that it is now “absolutely” even more of an issue.
