Black is beautiful and because it’s Black History Month, it’s obvious we’re going to highlight the beautiful black men and women in history. We want to encourage you to make history so that 10, 20, 30 years from now, we’ll be talking about YOU!
In 1968 Diahann Carroll starred in Julia one of the first television series to star a black woman in a non-stereotypical role. She later created the role of Dominique Deveraux in Dynasty.
Diahann Carroll attended Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts in New York with Billy Dee Williams. In 1984 the two were reunited when Williams played her on-screen husband Brady in Dynasty.
In 1989 Diahann Carroll received her 3rd Emmy nomination for her role as Marion Gilbert (Whitley Gilbert’s mother) in A Different World.
Diahann Carroll has had many roles on broadway and television receiving accolades along the way. In 2008 she won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for her role in Grey’s Anatomy.
Let’s salute the lovely 77 year old singer/actress who has shown that women of color can dominate television.
