Ballerific Sports: New York Giants Release Victor Cruz

After seven seasons, sources say Victor Cruz and the New York Giants are parting ways.  NFL Network’s Kimberly Jones confirmed the news on Monday.

Cruz spent his entire NFL career with the Giants since entering the league in 2010. In 2011, his breakout year, where he caught 82 passes for 1,536 yards, helped lead his team to their Super Bowl XLVI win.

Cruz suffered a torn patellar tendon midway through his 2014 season. He underwent knee surgery, unfortunately while rehabbing, Cruz picked up a calf injury that sidelined him for the entire 2015 season.

Victor Cruz returned to the Giants in the 2016 season, taking a pay cut and reducing his salary from $7.9 million to $1.3 million with playing time bonuses and incentives. He played 15 games, however fell in the shadows of Odell Beckham and Sterling Shepard.

For many, Cruz’s cut from the team does not come as a surprise.  The Giants clear $7.5 million in cap space by releasing Cruz. The cost was greater than his production, so it appeared to be an easy call.

What are your thoughts? Where should Victor Cruz’s next move be?
