A Missouri lawmaker may be facing serious consequences after leaving a Facebook comment that caught the attention of the Secret Service.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Just two days after Trump condemned “both sides” for the violence that took place at the white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Democratic state Senator #MariaChappelleNadal took to Facebook to express her frustrations with the Donald.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“I really hate Trump,” she wrote on her private Facebook page “He’s causing trauma and nightmares.”
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Her post received several responses, however, it was Chappelle-Nadal’s retort that lead to calls for her resignation.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“I hope Trump is assassinated!” she wrote under one of the comments.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Although, she later revealed that she didn’t wish harm on Trump, the comment quickly went viral, receiving widespread backlash from many of her democratic counterparts. However, she immediately refused all calls to resign.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“I didn’t mean what I put up. Absolutely not,” Chappelle-Nadal told reporters, just before reiterating that she will not resign from her position. “It was in response to the concerns that I am hearing from residents of St. Louis.”
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“There are people who are afraid of white supremacists. There are people who are having nightmares. There are people who are afraid of going out in the streets. It’s worse than even Ferguson,” she said, condemning Trump for his divisive rhetoric.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
However, the post managed to catch the attention of the Secret Service after a conservative host reportedly saw it on Twitter and contacted the agency. In turn, the Secret Service said it is “looking into the comments,” and investigating the matter.
