Floyd Mayweather Defends Ronda Rousey After UFC Defeat – blogged by @LoveRubyWoo

On Saturday night at UFC 193, Ronda Rousey suffered her first loss at the hands (or rather, foot) of Holly Holm. In what would turn out to be one of the biggest upsets in UFC history, Rousey got knocked out by Holm in the second round with a swift kick to the head. After the fight, it wasn’t enough that Rousey had a concussion, a bloody face, and a bruised ego, but on top of it all, everyone seemed to have turned their backs on her. Whether they were never fans of her from the start or they were fans who took their loyalty elsewhere once she lost, the critics started coming out loud and proud. Everyone from Lady Gaga to Laila Ali to the internet trolls had something to say. But while many people turned against her, Rousey found an unexpected ally in championship boxer Floyd Mayweather.

Just a few months ago, there was a beef brewing between Rousey and Mayweather as the two went back and forth with each other in interviews. The rivalry between the two started after Rousey beat out Mayweather for the ‘Best Fighter’ Award at the ESPYs and went on to say “I wonder how Floyd feels being beat by a woman for once.” Floyd then came back and boasted that he makes more money than her, and she responded by taking a jab at his reading and writing skills. It was safe to say that they didn’t like each other. So it was pretty surprising when Mayweather of all people decided to come to Rousey’s defense amidst all the criticism.

“I don’t think it’s cool how everyone is trolling her on social media,” Mayweather said in an interview with FightHype.com. “Certain things you have to learn. People will love you on Friday and then Sunday morning, it’s nothing but negative comments and people making jokes and people making fun about you, which I don’t think is cool. I’ve never been on the other side, so I don’t know how it feels. I’m pretty sure she’s a very, very strong person, but we still have to take into consideration that she has feelings.”

Further, even though his friend 50 Cent posted a picture on Instagram making fun of Rousey after the loss and claimed “Floyd told me to post this”, Mayweather denies that there’s any truth to that.

With everything that Ronda has said about him in the past, he could have acted extremely petty after she lost but instead, he decided he was going to have her back on this one. Look at Floyd taking the high road!
