Girls Can Now Join Boy Scouts of America

It’s official, girls will now be allowed to join Boy Scouts of America. This unanimous decision made by the board will also create the opportunity for older girls to earn the highest honor of being an Eagle Scout. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

On Wednesday the organization said, “The historic decision comes after years of receiving requests from families and girls,” Boy Scouts of America said in a statement. “[T]he organization evaluated the results of numerous research efforts, gaining input from current members and leaders, as well as parents and girls who’ve never been involved in Scouting — to understand how to offer families an important additional choice in meeting the character development needs of all their children.”⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

With families dealing with more hectic schedules than ever before, BSA says the goal is to also help out parents and their busy lives. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

In a statement BSA said, “Families today are busier and more diverse than ever. Most are dual-earners and there are more single-parent households than ever before, making convenient programs that serve the whole family more appealing.” ⠀⠀

For those who say, “Well, there’s Girls Scouts,” this is true. However, the highest honor you can receive is the “Gold Award” which isn’t as notable as BSA’s Eagle Scout title. In addition, being an Eagle Scout can provide long-term advantages professionally and educationally.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
