Lakers’ Kentavious Caldwell-Pope Will Serve a 25-Day Jail Sentence While Playing In NBA Games

Earlier this month, Los Angeles Lakers guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope pleaded guilty to a probation violation he committed in the summer, which resulted in a 25-day jail sentence in the Seal Beach Department Detention Center.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

According to LATimes, the Laker will serve his time under a work release program, which will allow him to leave the facility for in-state games and practices. This means Pope will miss away games in Houston and Minneapolis.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

“This is a legal matter, stemming from an incident that occurrd last season while Kentavious was a member of another NBA team,” the Lakers said in a statement, referencing an incident in March where Pope was stopped on suspicion of driving under the influence. “The Los Angeles Lakers are abiding by the terms of a program for Kentavious that were established for him by a court in the state of Michigan. As such, we will have no further comment at this time.”

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

As part of Pope’s bond, which stemmed from the March arrest that occurred while he was playing for the Pistons, he was sentenced to 12-months probation and required to submit random drug tests, LATimes reports. However, he missed several screenings, which led to his 25-day sentence for the violation.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

During a hearing earlier this month, Pope filed an emergency motion to serve at the pay-to-stay facility, which allows inmates to work and pay $120 a day. His petition was approved and now he will be able to play in the NBA and serve his time.
