Ava DuVernay Working on Racial Drama Pilot for CBS

One thing Ava DuVernay doesn’t stop doing is working. As the award-winning writer and director prepares for the release of her new film, “Disney’s A Wrinkle In Time”, and begins production for her hit show “Queen Sugar”, DuVernay is also working on another project for CBS.

According to Deadline, DuVernay is behind a new pilot for a show called “Red Line”. The new racial drama is executive produced by DuVernay, Greg Berlanti, and Sarah Schechter.

The show is expected to be an hour-long series about a white Chicago police officer who accidentally shoots a black doctor. The show will follow the stories of the families and all those affected by the tragic murder.

From the start of her career, DuVernay has prided herself on being inclusive. From hiring an all women staff to direct “Queen Sugar” or telling stories in an inclusive way such as her rendition of “A Wrinkle In Time”, she is always looking to represent us all.

So much so that she also founded ARRAY, an independent distribution company to support women and filmmakers of color.

“I’m trying to have all of us up in there and more. I don’t want to be someplace by myself,” she said in the February issue of ESSENCE. “I don’t want to be on a pedestal as the first this and that. That’s so wack; that is the old way of thinking.”
