Let’s face it, Donald Trump is obsessed with the intelligence of African-Americans.
In recent weeks, Trump has unleashed verbal attacks on the likes of Congresswoman Maxine Waters — who he has referred to as someone with “an extraordinarily low IQ person,” and last week insulting CNN news anchor Don Lemon as the “dumbest man on television.” And let’s not forget his, sly comment aimed at LeBron James’ intelligence.
“Lebron James was just interviewed by the dumbest man on television, Don Lemon,” he tweeted on Friday night. “He made Lebron look smart, which isn’t easy to do.”
This week during a CNN news segment, Lemon responded to Trump’s insults.
“The president has called a lot of people stupid,” he said. “Some of those people are white. But I would just like to note that referring to an African American as dumb – remember this is America – is one of the oldest canards of America’s racist past and present: that black people are of inferior intelligence.”
“The president constantly denigrates people of color, and women, too…this president traffics in racism and is fueled by bullying,” he added.
Trump’s reckless attempts and false statements to diminish the value and intelligence of prominent African-Americans has also extended to anyone against his personal beliefs.
Former FBI Director James Comey, former Texas Governor Rick Perry, 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, and conservative radio host Glenn Beck have also come under unnecessary IQ scrutiny from Trump.
According to a 2013 tweet, he boasted: “Sorry losers and haters, but my IQ is one of the highest -and you all know it! Please don’t feel so stupid or insecure, it’s not your fault,” he tweeted.
Judging from the Trump Administration’s education policies, — which includes rescinding Obama’s policy on Affirmative Action in schools — perhaps it’s Trump who doesn’t want to “feel so stupid or insecure” in the presence of greatness.
“I’m not sure President Trump wants to have the best-educated workforce,” former education secretary Arne Duncan told the Washington Post. “I think it doesn’t play to his authoritarian tendencies.”
Duncan, who served as Barack Obama’s secretary of education through the end of 2015, went on to add that a highly educated workforce would challenge Trump on his policies and his long list of misleading claims. “I’m not sure if that’s in his self-interest.”
Duncan may have a point considering Trump’s failed history overseeing Trump University, which reached a $25 million settlement for students who claimed they were defrauded by the now-defunct real estate seminar.
For future reference, Trump should take advice from a smart athlete who recently opened a school in his Ohio hometown. Not to mention, learning how to cultivate and provide the youth with free tuition, free uniforms, free breakfast, lunch, and snacks, GEDs and job placement for parents, and guaranteed tuition to the University of Akron for every graduate.
All of which has made LeBron one of the smartest athletes in the history of sports, and Trump University… one of the biggest failures in education.
