Donald Trump is telling his supporters to bash ESPN for its decision to not broadcast the National Anthem before “Monday Night Football.”
On Aug. 17, the network announced it would no longer air the playing of the National Anthem before its “Monday Night Football” program. “We generally have not broadcasted the anthem, and I don’t think that will change this year,” said ESPN boss James Pitaro last week. “Our plan going into this year is to not broadcast the anthem.”
But Trump isn’t having it. On Wednesday, (Aug. 22), Trump’s 2020 reelection committee sent out a fundraising letter attacking ESPN and its “spineless surrender to the politically correct liberal mob.” In the letter he told people that if America is “too offensive” then they should pack up and leave while also asking his followers to sign a petition against the Disney-owned network. “If ‘America’ is too offensive for anyone in our country then what are they doing in America,” wrote Trump.

Trump carried on his message again during a rally in West Virginia on Aug. 21. “You’re proud of our country, you’re proud of our history, and unlike the NFL, you always honor and cherish our great American flag. It was just announced by ESPN that rather than defending our anthem, our beautiful, beautiful national anthem and defending our flag, they’ve decided that they just won’t broadcast when they play the national anthem. We don’t like that.”
