12 People Killed, Including Officer, During Mass Shooting At Bar’s College Night

At least 12 people have been murdered, including an officer, after a shooting inside of a California bar on “college night,” according to authorities.

Per Sheriff Geoff Dean of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, at least ten others were injured.

The gunman, who has been identified Ian David Long, was also found dead at the scene.

The shooting occurred during the early hours of Thursday. According to Dean, Sgt. Ron Helus responded to a shooting at the Borderline Bar & Grill Just after 11 pm. Upon entering the bar, Helus was shot. He died from his injuries.

According to USA Today, the gunman entered the bar reportedly dawned in a black trench coat, and opened fire. The shooting marks the deadliest mass shooting since a gunman killed 17 people at a Parkland Florida high school in February.

The bar is a popular attraction for college students in the area including those who attend Pepperdine University. The university released the following statement via Twitter:

“The University has determined that multiple Pepperdine students were on site at Borderline Bar and Grill in Thousand Oaks. At this time, the University is working to identify and provide support to those students.”

According to authorities hundreds of people were inside of the bar and they are still working to access the gruesome scene and identify those that are deceased.
