4-Year-Old Girl Becomes Youngest to Die From Covid-19 in Galveston County Texas

After several family members were infected, a four-year-old child became the youngest Covid-19 victim in Galveston County, Texas, since the outbreak began.
According to Independent UK, Kali Cook died on September 7th while asleep at home, just hours after developing coronavirus symptoms. She had not been immunized because children under the age of 12 were not yet eligible for vaccination.
Her mother, Karra Harwood, was not vaccinated and has stated that she was opposed to vaccinations.
She told The Daily News, “I was one of the people that was anti, I was against it. Now, I wish I never was.”
Kali died as a result of an increase in Delta variant cases in children in the US.

The Galveston County Health District reported 1,382 cases of the virus among kids under 12 last month. Until now, Texas has had at least 24 children under the age of ten have died due to Covid-19.

The girl lived in Bacliff with her father, mother, and four siblings, who had contracted the virus and were in quarantine.
“I ended up getting Covid-19 and was diagnosed on Monday,” Ms. Harwood said. “I came home and was isolated. I tried to stay away from her and didn’t want her and my other kids to get it.”
The mother claims that she attempted to give her medicine to control her fever when it increased at around 2 A.M. that morning. But, according to Ms. Harwood, at 7 am Kali had died in her sleep. She said that her daughter had no previous immune disorders or other health issues.
“I did not murder my daughter,” she told KPRC-TV. “There are people getting vaccinated that are still getting Covid, and they can still spread Covid.”

Following examinations, the Galveston County medical examiner’s office confirmed that her death was from covid-19.

In a press statement, health officials stated they didn’t believe that the girl was infected at her school. None of the students or staff who had contact with the child had tested positive for the coronavirus after further contact tracking.
According to Ms. Harwood, her five-month-old has also been infected with the virus. She said, “I’ve taken him to the hospital every night since because I feel like they’re not getting better, and I’m terrified.”
According to research by the American Academy of Pediatrics, children accounted for at least 0.27 percent of all Covid-19 deaths in 43 US states.
