TikTok Star Achieng Agutu Accuses Miami Hotspot of Racism After Being Denied Entry Despite Offering to Buy a $2K Table [Video]

A popular social media influencer and model has called out a South Beach hotspot over what she describes as an instance of blatant racism.

Achieng Agutu, who has over one million followers on TikTok thanks to her lifestyle content, detailed the experience in a video that has been viewed more than 600,000 times. According to her, she visited Mary Lou’s Miami, located inside the W Hotel, to meet up with friends. She and another woman went to the front of the line and texted their party inside the venue to let them know they were outside. When her friend came to the front to retrieve them, the doorman refused to let the women inside.

Agutu claims the doorman told them to wait a few minutes, but said she noticed he began allowing non-Black people into Mary Lou’s, particularly Hispanic women. She alleged that he then “looked them up and down” before stating “no,” denying them access. Agutu, a dark-skinned woman from Kenya, said she was then told the club was only allowing entry to guests who purchased $2,000 VIP tables. The influencer said she told the doorman she would be happy to purchase a table. At that point, she claims, he changed his explanation, saying Mary Lou’s was at capacity.

“That was such a racist experience. I love being in Miami, but I hate experiences like that,” she stated. “He didn’t care that I was going to pay the money [to] him. He was like, ‘You are not someone we wanna have in our establishment.’”

Rapper JT reposted the video on TikTok, further boosting its reach. As of now, Mary Lou’s has not issued a public statement about the situation. However, such stories of racism and colorism toward dark-skinned women on South Beach are not uncommon, with social media only amplifying these accounts.
