Airbnb Cracking Down On Parties Ahead Of Memorial Day & Fourth Of July

Airbnb is tired of the wild shindigs and is now implementing strict anti-party rules ahead of the Memorial Day and Fourth of July holidays.

On Wednesday, the short-term home rental company rolled out several new regulations in their fight to end parties inside private properties. Though originally introduced in 2020, Airbnb’s party ban has done little to deter people from booking mansions and other residences for their large gatherings. The company is particularly concerned about these types of bookings as bustling holidays known for celebrations creep closer.

As part of the anti-party measures, users trying to reserve residences for one night over Memorial Day and July 4th weekend in the U.S. will be required to have a history of positive reviews on the site. Those who do not have positive history will be prohibited from booking entire homes for one night. Similar restrictions will be placed on two-night reservation requests, banning last-minute or local bookings without a positive review history.

Guests attempting to make local reservations must agree to Airbnb’s rules. They must also agree that any violation of these regulations could result in legal action.

In addition to new constraints, Airbnb is also making users aware of its Neighborhood Support Line. The service is a 24 hours a day helpline that allows neighbors to report parties happening in real-time at homes they suspect of being listed on the site.

“We will continue working with local law enforcement, neighbors, and our community to try to stop unauthorized parties, and we look forward to sharing announcements along these lines in the coming months,” the company shared in a statement.

In recent years, Airbnb has seen a string of wild parties, many of which have turned violent. In 2019, the company fell under intense scrutiny after a party at one of its rentals left five people dead and four others injured. Most recently, a party at a Pittsburgh Airbnb erupted in gunfire last month when two people were killed, and eight were injured.
