A man from Alaska was killed Friday on his Massachusetts vacation when a metal tool fell off a truck and pierced the windshield of his rental car.
Thomas Arrington, 69, was struck by a tool used for smoothing out freshly poured concrete on Interstate 95 at about 8:30 a.m. He managed to stop the rented Ford Fusion before succumbing to his injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
His 68-year-old wife, a passenger in the car, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. She was treated and released.
State police said the couple had arrived in Massachusetts earlier that morning to begin their vacation.
The 21-year-old dump truck driver of the truck identified himself to police and has been cooperative. He is employed by a Lynn construction company.
So far, no charges have been filed. The investigation is ongoing.
