Angelynn Elizabeth Mock, once the face of local news in St. Louis, now finds herself on the other side of the camera lens. The 47-year-old former anchor has been charged with first-degree murder, accused of stabbing her 80-year-old mother, Anita Avers, to death inside her Wichita, Kansas, home on Halloween morning.
Police say they were called to the scene around 7:52 a.m. on Friday after receiving a report of a cutting at the residence. Upon arrival, officers said they found Mock outside the home and discovered Avers inside, unresponsive in her bed with multiple stab wounds. She was rushed to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 8:26 a.m.
Mock, now working as a data management consultant, appeared in court on Tuesday. The criminal complaint accuses her of acting “unlawfully, intentionally, and with premeditation.” She was formally charged and remains in custody on a $1 million bond. Her next court hearing is scheduled for November 14.
Mock’s professional past includes a four-year stint as a TV anchor in St. Louis, as confirmed by her LinkedIn profile and ABC Wichita affiliate KAKE. Authorities have not released a motive in the case, though Mack reportedly told officers she killed her mother “to save herself.
