Days after a devastating car crash in Nigeria claimed the lives of two men close to him, Anthony Joshua has spoken out with an emotional message honoring their memory.
The heavyweight boxing star was a backseat passenger in the vehicle involved in the fatal accident that killed his trainers, Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele. Joshua sustained minor injuries and was treated in the hospital before being released on New Year’s Eve. Since then, he has remained out of the public eye while processing the loss.
Joshua addressed the tragedy directly in a heartfelt Instagram post, thanking supporters for the compassion shown toward the two men.
“Thank you for all the love and care you have shown my brothers. I didn’t even [realize] how special they are,” he wrote.

He went on to reflect on the everyday moments they shared, adding, “I’ll just be walking with them and cracking jokes with them, not even knowing God kept me in the presence of great men.”
The boxer also acknowledged the grief their families are carrying.
“100 per cent, it’s tough for me, but I know it’s even tougher for their parents. I have a strong mind, and I believe God knows their hearts. May God have mercy on my brothers.”
Ghami and Ayodele were described by a spokesperson as “close friends and integral members of Anthony’s team,” a statement that reflected how deeply rooted they were in his personal and professional world. Their deaths marked a profound moment for Joshua, who has strong ties to Nigeria and was spending time there following his recent victory against Jake Paul.
Nigerian police have charged the driver involved, and legal proceedings are ongoing.
