Anti-Abortion Activist Charged With A Felony For Allegedly Stalking A Doctor Who Provided Abortion Services

An anti-abortion activist is facing multiple charges after stalking a doctor who provided abortion services.

Aaron Jonathan Hurley, along with other activists, targeted a women’s health clinic and stalked a doctor who provides the services. Hurley was charged with felony stalking, obstructing freedom of access to a clinic, vandalism, trespassing with intent to interfere, and interfering with a business.

The San Francisco DA office says the activists “defaced and damaged” a bronze statue of the Madonna and Child at the hospital. The group put fake blood and stickers with the doctor’s name on the figure.

The following day, the group staged a blindsided protest in the hospital. A woman pretended to be seeking counseling to lure a nurse to come to the door. Members of the group “came out from hiding” and ran inside the clinic. The activists “barged into the clinic and began filming patients and staff. Staff reported these protesters were attempting to barge into operating rooms,” the DA’s statement release says.

The group allegedly entered the clinic where the doctor worked and began “chanting the doctor’s name and, ‘We know who you are. We know what you do.’” In addition, they also “harassed staff and patients, causing them to fear for their safety.”

That night, the group allegedly put “a killer lives in your neighborhood” stickers on the doors of the doctor’s and neighbor’s houses. The activism group also placed flyers around the doctor’s neighborhood. The flyers included QR codes that led to a website that “specifically named the doctor. Provided false, inflammatory claims about abortion procedures. And attacked the doctor for providing abortion services.”

The DA office says, “The doctor was frightened for their safety and the safety of their family. Given that the doctor was targeted at both their home and work.”
