ASAP Rocky Admits His Mother Wanted Him With Rihanna Long Before the World Did [Video]

ASAP Rocky says his love story with Rihanna had a co-sign long before it ever became public, and that approval came straight from home.

In a recent appearance previewed on The New York Times’ Popcast, the Harlem rapper opened up about how his mother saw the vision early, even when he did not.

“[Rihanna] was always my boo,” Rocky said. “I always f**ked with her. My mother used to say s**t like, ‘I know you like this girl that you with right now … But I want you with Riri.’”

At the time, Rocky brushed it off and kept things firmly in the friend zone. “I used to be like, ‘Ma, why you keep saying that? That girl don’t even want me like that,’” he explained. “Be cool, Ma. That’s just my friend. Chill.’”

His mother stayed firm. “‘I’m telling you, she real,’” Rocky recalled her saying, later adding, “And mothers know best.”

Now partnered with Rihanna, Rocky reflected on how the relationship shifted him in ways he did not expect.

“A woman will change your whole life, especially if it’s a companion,” he said. “I got with a very special woman.”

He pointed to their shared birth year, family roots connected to Barbados, and an easy emotional rhythm that keeps them laughing. The timing, he said, mattered most.

“I’m thankful that she was put in my life at that time,” Rocky shared. “I don’t think any time prior to that, I was ready for something like that. I don’t think she was either.”

The pair first crossed paths in 2012, began dating years later, and are now parents to three children. As family life stays front and center, ASAP Rocky is also preparing for the release of his fourth studio album, “Don’t Be Dumb,” arriving Friday.
