Baller Alert Exclusive: Xzibit Talks New Music, His Transition From Music To Film and Ice Cube: “I Think There’s A lot of People That Have Come From Hip Hop Not Only In Front of The Camera But Behind The Camera As Well [That Are Doing An Excellent Job]”

Back in October, the Serial Killers, a group composed of rappers B-Real, Xzibit, and Demrick, released their third project, “Day of The Dead,” which combines party tunes with political messages. In a recent interview with Baller Alert, the rapper turned actor opened up about his new music, hip-hop, his transition from music to film and television, his acting career and Ice Cube.

“I think it’s a combination of what’s on the table, what feels right at the time,” the rapper-turned-actor said of his transition, when asked if he was moving more toward television and film rather than music.

As he continued, X opened up about his start in the industry and how a few suggestions from Ice Cube helped him understand what he needed to do to succeed in the business.

“The first movie I ever did was with Ice Cube, and so I think the best thing that I could say from that story is I already respect him so much as being one of my icons, coming from NWA and what he’s done with his career, but we had a scene and I was driving a truck, it was “XXX 2.”

“I was in the drivers seat, Cube was in the passenger seat and we started the scene and immediately I started driving like “Batman,” so we did our first take and Cube leaned over was like, ‘Ay man, you really drive like that?’ I was like, ‘Nah, I was in the scene,’ ‘Nah man less is more,’” he revealed. “That was my introduction to- Oh, I gotta learn more.”

In the end, X opened up about fellow rappers-turned-actors and named a few that he believed to have been successful in their transition, including the likes of Cube and Ice-T.

“I think there’s a lot of people that have come from Hip Hop that not only in front of camera, but behind the camera as well.”

Who are some rappers turned actors that are currently killing it?
