Baller Alert’s Athlete of the Week: Brandon Marshall – blogged by @LoveRubyWoo

Every athlete strives to be great, but in the world of professional sports, it takes a combination of mental and physical strength, hard work, dedication, and God-given talent to be a cut above the rest. Whether it’s on the the turf, on the hardwood, on the diamond, or in the ring, some players have what it takes to stand out and be the best of the best. They never cease to amaze us as they put it all on the line for the sake of the game, so it’s only right that we recognize who these star athletes are and give credit where it’s due.

Here at Baller Alert, we want to give a shoutout to the one athlete that really shined this week. You did your thing out there and we salute you!

Athlete of the Week: Brandon Marshall (New York Jets Wide Receiver)

New York Jets’ Brandon Marshall has been proving all season why he’s still one of the best receivers in the game, and his performance this past Sunday was no exception. In a thrilling game against the New England Patriots that went into overtime, Marshall caught eight passes for 115 yards and two touchdowns, helping his team to upset the Pats. In his first season as a New York Jet, Marshall has turned out to be a wise investment as he is easily having one of the best seasons of his career. With one week left to go in the regular season, he has already put up over 1,300 yards and scored 13 touchdowns, while also breaking records left and right. With Marshall’s eight receptions on Sunday, he set the record for the most receptions in a single season by a New York Jet. He also made history by becoming the first NFL player to ever post six seasons with over 100 catches. One of the biggest storylines this season has been the surprising revival of the Jets and there’s no doubt that the addition of Marshall to the team has played a big part in the team’s reemergence. With the help of fellow wide receiver Eric Decker and quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, Marshall has had a big hand in pushing the Jets towards a successful season, as the team is just one win away from reaching the NFL playoffs for the first time in five years. “If we get in,” Marshall says, “it’ll be a dream come true.”
