Baller Alert’s Today In Hip-Hop: Future’s Debut Studio Album “Pluto” Was Released 6 Years Ago

On April 13, 2012, Future released his debut studio album “Pluto”.  Issued by Freebandz, A1 recordings, and Epic records, the album was chock full of classic club bangers from “Tony Montana” to “Same Damn Time”.

“Pluto” featured timeless acts like Drake, Juicy J, Snoop Dogg, R. Kelly and more.  Some of the mainstream rap fans didn’t immediately take heed of the rapper’s defining style of delivery and tone then.  At that time there weren’t many rappers including vocals like the ATL bred artist.  With this album, he set a trend that broke the “sing-trap” mold we see present in so many artists’ styles today.

The album sold over 40,000 copies its first week of release and reached No. 2 on the Billboard U.S. Top Rap Albums and the U.S. R&B/Hip-Hop Albums.  That year it also ranked at number four in the top-10 albums of 2012 by The Washington Post.

Singles from the album like “Turn On The Lights” were certified platinum, while other songs like “Magic” will forever go down as classics in the heart of the streets.
