Baller Behind The Scene – Mickey “Memphitz” Wright

Mickey “MeMpHiTz” Wright is currently Vice President of A&R at Jive Records and earned his nickname while interning at Arista Records.

In April 2001, the Mephis, Tennesse native’s father was kidnapped and murdered and he soon after found out that he had fathered a daughter.

Instead of letting these circumstances cripple him, MeMpHiTz moved to New York and began interning at Arista Records. After a chance meeting with A&R guru Mark Pitts he soon was able to build relationships with the likes of Jermaine Dupri and LA Reid.

While still an intern Jermaine Dupri gave MeMpHiTz the once in a lifetime opportunity to work on the Youngbloodz project and he came up with their hit “Damn”. He then discovered St. Louis artist J-Kwon and created the summer anthem “Tipsy”.

After the labels folding, MeMpHiTz took his hitmaking skills to Jive Records becoming Vice President of A&R and signing an unknown Florida artist named T-Pain.

“My whole slogan is ‘In Hitz We Trust’. If you aint making no hits, you aint making no paper and they aint fucking with you”, MeMpHiTz said.

This twenty something industry executive is definitely one to watch and his career although already explosive is just beginning.
