The Cleveland Cavaliers have gotten hit with the injury bug once again. 4-Time MVP LeBron James, who’s recently been dealing with a sore back, received an anti-inflammatory injection in his back this week which will likely cost him the rest of the preseason. ESPN reports the injection, similar to the one he received during his two week break last season, as mostly performed out of caution and to take advantage of the downtime before the start of the season
Due to the Cavs intending to use this exhibition season to rest players and avoid unnecessary injuries to key elements of the team, Cavaliers coach David Blatt already scheduled James to rest towards the end of preseason. Due to the latest development, it is more likely that James will sit the rest of the preseason.
It wasn’t all bad news for the reigning Eastern Conference Champs on Friday . All-Star Forward Kevin Love has been cleared to play on Sunday against the Toronto Raptors. Love has not played since separating his shoulder in the 1st round of the playoffs in April. When Kevin Love looks around he will see a totally different group of guys. LeBron James will not be there, Kyrie Irving is still out with the fractured kneecap he injured in the finals, Iman Shumpert injured his wrist and is out until December and Tristan Thompson is still holding out.
Coach Blatt says that he would like to get LeBron and Kevin some game time reps together before the regular season but it is not critical. The Cavs open the regular season against the Chicago Bulls on October 27th.
