Barack Obama Gets Deep About the Importance Of Voting, Uplifting Millennials And Moving On From His Presidency

Sometimes the biggest lessons are the ones that we hate to hear. However, if it’s coming from our forever President #BarackObama you might want to listen.

On Thursday, Obama appeared at a political fundraiser in Beverly Hills following months of silence from the media. He came with a mission, and that mission was to tell the Democratic Party to do better when it comes to voting, and even suggested that we stop living in this fantasy that he’s still the president.

“Do not wait for the perfect message,” he continued. “Don’t wait to feel a tingle in your spine because you’re expecting politicians to be so inspiring and poetic and moving that somehow, ‘Ok, I’ll get off my couch after all and go spend the 15-20 minutes it takes for me to vote.’ Because that’s part of what happened in the last election. I heard that too much.”

Obama also mentioned the importance of targeting millennial voters and helping them instead of downplaying their power. “The most important thing we can do is invite them in and give them power,” Obama said, according to NPR. “Give them a voice. Older people tend to think that they know best, (but) get young people involved and get out of the way,” said Obama. “We have to get organized. We have to get systematic about registering voters.”

Following up with his notes about our current administration, Obama went on to tell the Democratic National Committee (DNC) donors that they are “right to be concerned” about the White House’s current occupant, saying if we continue to dwell on our disdain for #Trump nothing will be accomplished. “The executive summary,” he said, is “Vote. Participate. Get involved.” He added, “If we don’t vote, then this democracy doesn’t work.”
