MTV has revived one of its most beloved shows, and rapper Big Sean is the first celebrity to appear on the first episode of the new and improved Cribs.
“Cribs didn’t simply introduce the celebreality genre; it created a blueprint for how we engage on social media,” said Nina L. Diaz, President of Content and Chief Creative Officer at MTV Entertainment Group. “We are thrilled to usher in a new era of this iconic franchise for audiences around the world.”
The new Cribs mostly maintains the same intensity as the original edition of the look-at-my-house narrative for those who miss it. Sean gives viewers a rather extensive tour of his Los Angeles-area home, featuring The Challenge host TJ Lavin.
During the first stop on the tour of the home—which has seven bedrooms, eight bathrooms, and almost 11,000 square feet of living space—Sean gave us a sneak peek at a customized art piece created to commemorate his 2015 Kanye West and John Legend collaboration, “One Man Can Change the World.”
“It’s a song I wrote about my grandma,” Sean explains. “My grandma was a real g. She’s sadly not with us here today, but she was definitely somebody who was worth paying respect to.”
The home’s secret club area is another attraction with great value. When entering, guests are greeted with a notice informing them of a policy prohibiting the use of phones and cameras. Once inside the club, it’s evident that Slash of Guns N’ Roses once owned the place.
“When I bought the house, Slash had this whole club down here, and they were like, ‘You can turn this into whatever you want,’” Sean recalls. “I’m like, bro, you fucking kidding me? This is Slash’s club!”
Also, during the tour, Sean shows off his home studio, which includes a distant window view of his old one-bedroom apartment, as well as his art-filled gaming room.
Cribs premieres on Wednesdays at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT. On Paramount+ and the MTV website, certain classic seasons of Cribs are also available.
