Brett Farve To Repay $1.1 Million For Speeches That Were Not Made

Former NFL player Brett Farve is returning over $1 million to the state of Mississippi, as he was unaware the money was coming from a crooked welfare program.

According to TMZ sports, over $98 million in welfare funds were granted to two different non-profit organizations from the Mississippi Department of Human Services.

However, the money was abused as the groups were full of crooks who used the money elsewhere for concert tickets, football games, and even a payment of $1.1 million to have Farve give speeches in 2017 and 2018.

But Farve never even made an appearance and was unaware of any of the payments.

“My agent is often approached by different products and brands for me to appear in one way or another. This request was no different, and I did numerous ads for Families First,” Favre said in a statement.

Farve also cleared the air by addressing the fact that he’s never missed an obligation he was paid for.

“I have never received monies for obligations I didn’t meet,” he continued. “To reiterate Auditors White’s statement, I was unaware that the money being dispersed was paid for out of funds not intended for that purpose, and because of that, I am refunding the full amount back to Mississippi.”

Farve assured that he loves kids and had donated throughout the years and would never take away from people in need.

“I have spent my entire career helping children through Favre 4 Hope donating nearly $10 million to underserved and underprivileged children in Mississippi and Wisconsin,” he added. “It has brought a ton of joy to my life, and I would certainly never do anything to take away from the children I have fought to help! I love Mississippi, and I would never knowingly do anything to take away from those that need it most.”

According to officials, Farve has already repaid $500,000.

“I want to applaud Mr. Favre for his good faith effort to make this right and make the taxpayers and TANF families whole,” Auditor Shad White said in an official statement. “To date, we have seen no records indicating Mr. Favre knew that TANF [Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program] was the program that served as the source of the money he was paid.”

Farve plans to reimburse the remainder of the balance through various installments.
