The long-standing effort to free Corey Miller, better known as C-Murder, hit a massive roadblock this week. In a unanimous decision, the Louisiana Supreme Court declined to review the 2009 second-degree murder conviction of the former No Limit Records star. This marks the third time the state’s highest court has walked away from the case, effectively leaving the 54-year-old rapper to continue serving his life sentence at the Louisiana State Penitentiary.
The court ruled that Miller has already used up his available state-level remedies and failed to provide any new evidence that met the strict requirements for another post-conviction review.
At the center of this legal saga is the 2002 death of 16-year-old Steve Thomas, who was fatally shot during a brawl at a nightclub in Harvey, Louisiana. Miller, the brother of hip-hop moguls Master P and Silkk the Shocker, has never stopped proclaiming his innocence in the years since his arrest.
Public interest in the case skyrocketed back in 2018 when a major twist emerged: two key witnesses who originally pointed the finger at Miller decided to recant their statements. At the time, they claimed they had been pressured by investigators into naming the rapper as the triggerman.
Despite those witness reversals and the high-profile nature of the case, the court system hasn’t been swayed. Before this latest February 2026 ruling, Miller had previously seen his appeals shot down in 2011 and 2013. While his family and supporters have consistently pushed for a new trial, the unanimous nature of this week’s decision suggests that the state’s judiciary considers the matter settled.
For now, the “Life or Death” artist remains behind bars, with his legal team facing an increasingly narrow path toward any future release.
