Cardi B is not laughing at the way artificial intelligence is creeping into everyday life, especially when it comes to her family.
On Wednesday, February 4, the Bronx rapper took to social media to air out a concern many people quietly share. Without naming a specific incident, Cardi B posted, “Free my older family members from facebook Ai [robot emoji] [weary face emoji],” signaling clear frustration with how the technology shows up on timelines frequented by older relatives.

While Cardi did not add more context, the issue she flagged is well-documented. As Complex highlights, Parents.com points out that older adults are often more exposed to misinformation due to isolation and less familiarity with fast-changing digital tools. Generative AI has raised the stakes even higher through deepfakes, AI-generated videos, and voice cloning scams that can look and sound real. A 2025 study from the University of Michigan found that 92 percent of adults over 50 want to know if content they see was made by a human or AI. Meanwhile, 81 percent said they want more education on the risks tied to the technology.
The outlet also referenced a Florida case where Sharon Brightwell lost $15,000 after scammers used AI to imitate her daughter’s voice in July 2025. The Federal Communications Commission classifies this tactic as a “grandparent scam.”
Beyond individual losses, NBC News reports that AI-fueled misinformation is weakening trust overall. Stanford Social Media Lab director Jeff Hancock warned that people may soon “not trust things they see in digital spaces,” a shift that could push users to disengage instead of stay informed.
Cardi’s tweet may have been short, but the message behind it hit close to home for a lot of families.
