Social media is buzzing after Celine Dion’s team called out Donald Trump for using one of her iconic songs during his rally.
By now, many have seen the clips from Trump’s campaign rally on Friday in Bozeman, Montana, where a video of Dion performing her classic hit “My Heart Will Go On” from the 1997 movie Titanic was played on stage. The song, which won several awards, including an Academy Award for Best Original Song and four Grammys, is beloved by many—including, it seems, Trump. However, Dion’s team is not pleased with her song being used at one of his rallies.
On Saturday, Dion’s team released a statement making it clear that they do not support the use of her song for Trump’s campaign. They also questioned why “My Heart Will Go On” was even chosen.
“Today, Celine Dion’s management team and her record label, Sony Music Entertainment Canada Inc., became aware of the unauthorized usage of the video, recording, musical performance, and likeness of Celine Dion singing ‘My Heart Will Go On’ at a Donald Trump / JD Vance campaign rally in Montana. In no way is this use authorized, and Celine Dion does not endorse this or any similar use…And really, THAT song?” the statement read.
It’s unclear if Dion and Sony plan to take legal action. Meanwhile, social media users have been quick to criticize Trump for the song choice, with many finding humor in the situation.
