Colin Kaepernick Says He’s “Absolutely” Ready to Return to the NFL

Colin Kaepernick hasn’t played in the NFL since the 2016 season, but he recently revealed in a new interview that he is still focused and ready to make his return to the league.

In an interview with Ebony Magazine conducted by Sunny Hostin, Kaepernick said he still gets up at 5 AM and trains 5 or 6 days a week so that he can be ready in case a team finally calls him.

When asked if he’s ready to play again, he responded confidently, saying, “Absolutely. I am still up at 5 a.m. training five, six days a week, making sure I’m prepared to take a team to a Super Bowl again. That’s not something I will ever let go of, regardless of the actions of 32 teams and their partners to deny me employment. The same way I was persistent in high school is the same way I’m gonna be persistent here.”

Kap also repeated claims that he believes the NFL blackballed him and made it clear that he still feels like the team owners are avoiding him. He explained that he hopes continued training will “expose” them.

“You’re gonna have to continue to deny me and do so in a public way. And you’re gonna expose yourself by that, but it won’t be because I’m not ready or not prepared,” the athlete and activist stated.

Kap is also focusing on other endeavors, like a production company, charity work, and a prospective acting career.

“But in that process, I’m also not gonna let you bury my future. I’m gonna continue to do work on the acting and producing side, continue to do the work with Know Your Rights, and make sure we are having an impact. I think that’s the beauty of us collectively—we are not one-dimensional.”
