Colorado Dentist Laced Wife’s Protein Shakes so He Could Start a New Life With His Mistress

A Colorado dentist is now facing charges after cops say he poisoned his wife’s protein shakes to start a new life with his mistress.

On Sunday in Aurora, Colorado, James Toliver Craig, 45, was taken into custody on suspicion of first-degree murder.

According to Investigators, Craig had flown his mistress to Denver while the mother of his six children was dying in the hospital, allegedly by his own doing.

Two days before his 43-year-old wife, Angela Craig, was admitted to the hospital after complaining of headaches and dizziness, Craig had searched online for what poisons could kill a person without detection and ordered a canister of toxic potassium cyanide to his office, said the affidavit obtained by the Daily Beast.

According to authorities, Angela’s condition quickly deteriorated after she was hospitalized last Wednesday.  She was put on a ventilator, declared brain-dead, and removed from life support on Sunday.

The affidavit details what led to the murder – including infidelity, financial problems, and a past poisoning incident involving Angela.
Investigators say that Angela’s sister came forward and said that Craig  “had multiple affairs with several women, told Angela he had been addicted to pornography since he was a teenager and drugged Angela approximately five to six years ago.”

She also said that Angela told her Craig “was on the verge of bankruptcy” for a second time.

The Aurora Police Department’s Major Crimes Homicide Unit conducted an investigation after Craig’s business partner told a nurse that he suspected Angela Craig had been poisoned.
According to the affidavit, the office manager informed him two days before Angela Craig was hospitalized that she had opened a package for Craig, which sparked suspicions.  Inside was a canister labeled potassium cyanide and biohazard.

“James was known to make Angela protein shakes regularly,” the affidavit said.  “It was believed he had provided Angela with the poison through these shakes.”

Investigators further claim that Craig searched online for several poisons, including how to get Oleander, a deadly plant, how much pure arsenic could kill a person, and “6 Deadly ‘Undetectable’ Poisons (and How to Detect Them).”

A string of emails obtained by The Daily Beast alleges that Craig made travel plans for his mistress to visit him almost exactly when Angela Craig was hospitalized.
Based on the affidavit, Craig allegedly used the same email address to purchase poisons and send intimate and sexually explicit emails to his mistress.
According to reports, Craig claims that he ordered the potassium cyanide for his wife because she was suicidal since he was qualified medically.  Still, he didn’t think she would use it.
It was determined that Angela did not display any signs of suicidal behavior.

On Monday, Craig made his initial court appearance and is still held without bond.

He is not permitted to communicate with any of his six children, according to the local television news station KUSA.
