Costco shoppers may want to check their wine stash. F&F Fine Wines International Inc., doing business as Ethica Wines, has recalled more than 900,000 bottles of Kirkland Signature Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG after multiple reports of bottles shattering unexpectedly.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) confirmed the recall, stating that the glass bottles “can break or shatter, posing a laceration hazard.” Ethica Wines took action after receiving ten reports of bottles breaking, including one case that resulted in an injury.
These particular bottles feature a green glass body, purple foil on top, and a purple label with the Kirkland Signature name clearly visible. The affected UPC code is 196633883742 and the Costco item number is 1879870.
Costco sold the wine between April and August 2025 in 12 states across the Midwest including Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Each bottle retailed for around eight dollars.
In September, Costco had already warned customers through a letter, urging anyone who purchased the product during the specified time period to take precaution due to the risk of the bottles shattering.
According to the CPSC, customers are advised to “immediately” stop using the recalled bottles. Instead, they should dispose of the wine in their household trash and contact Ethica Wines for information on how to receive a full refund from Costco.
This recall is one of several recent safety-related product pulls from Costco in 2025.
