Most artists live for fan art, but for DaBaby, there is a massive difference between a portrait of himself and a painting of his children.
The rapper reached his breaking point this week after a man approached him at a nightclub entrance to gift him a hand-painted canvas featuring two of his young daughters.
What the creator likely saw as a tribute, DaBaby saw as a total lack of respect for his privacy. Taking to social media to vent, the North Carolina native didn’t hold back his irritation.
Man, y’all starting to get on my motherfing nerves,” DaBaby started, making it clear he wasn’t in the mood for excuses. He quickly addressed the specific encounter with the artist. “Talking about buddy with this painting of my two daughters—two of my daughters—that he presented to me outside of a nightclub or whatever.”
For the rapper, the setting and the subject matter were a recipe for disaster. He explained his stance on the principles of fatherhood, emphasizing that his kids are off-limits to strangers.
“First and foremost, I’m not the type of father that—then, I’m not into like, you know, grown-ass man discussing my daughters, painting pictures of my daughters, taking pictures of my kids,” he said. “I don’t—I don’t play like that. If you play like that, to each his own, you see what I’m saying? Like more power to you, send that n*** a picture of your daughters, let that n**** paint them, and then show him some appreciation.”
The artist, known as B. White, seemed caught off guard by the hostile reception. He later posted a video of the detailed artwork, looking frustrated that his “grand gesture” blew up in his face.
“I just got to the house. This the picture, dog, of the baby kids and shit. Beautiful kids. I don’t know what wrong, you feel me?” White said while showing the canvas to his followers. He even added captions to the video like “I Felt Badd,” clearly confused by why the rapper didn’t want a painting of his children from a stranger at 2:00 AM.
DaBaby, however, wasn’t looking for an apology, he wanted people to use common sense. He doubled down on why the gift was rejected so harshly.
“Number two, I’m not accepting no—no painting of my daughters outside of a nightclub. Number three, you see what I’m saying? You feel a way about, you know, the principles I stand on with my kids and how far I go to protect them, that ain’t none of my concern. Be more grateful.”
The message is loud and clear, if you want to show DaBaby love, keep it professional and keep his family out of it.
